I won't dwell on yesterday's game between Notre Dame and South Carolina. Sufficed to say it was pretty sloppy but Notre Dame managed to get it together and come up with the win, and I'll take any kind of a win. But some thoughts occured while watching the game, as follows:
1. Notre Dame entered the game ranked number 21 in the country... South Carolina was ranked number 19. Now, both of these teams beat Clemson during the regular season. BUT, Clemson entered their bowl game ranked number 7. Now, how in the hell does a team that got beat by the 21st ranked team, and the 19th ranked team end up being ranked number 7 ????????????
Clemson should have, by all rights, been ranked BELOW both Notre Dame and South Carolina, but they aren't. That's ludicrous!!! This just goes to show that, after decades of trying to come up with a fair ranking system they still are, apparently, resorting to some made-up crap by some people who are obviously biased as hell.
From what I can see the ranking system amounts to putting a myopic monkey named "BOBO" in a room and telling him to throw darts at a wall covered with the names of FBS schools... "Okay, BOBO! Throw a dart and let's see who is number 1." "Okay, BOBO, throw a dart and let's see who is number 15." And so on and so on! Because what is being done now sure as hell doesn't make any more sense than BOBO and his darts!. In other words, the rankings are just bullshit, as usual. I mean, let's not take into account strength of schedule or anything like that. Let's keep proclaiming SEC schools highly ranked despite the fact that they play schools like Woford and Furman. Let's just make BOBO's dart throwing skills the real decider of college football rankings. Sure! That makes good sense! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. It seems pretty apparent to me that this "portal" bullshit is slowly but surely going to ruin every college sport their is. And that is because student athletes are being allowed to be completely irresponsible in how they approach both their college education and their college athletic careers.
"Oh, I am not getting played enough where I'm going to school now... so I'll just transfer to some other school where they might play me more. And if they don't, I'll just transfer again."
Heaven forbid we should expect college athletes to honor the four-year scholarship commitments that schools have made to them. Let's just allow them to act like spoiled children who, when they don't get their way immediately, are allowed to break their commtment to the school and go off somewhere else. Yeah! That will teach kids to act responsibly and fulfill their obligations in life. Sure! That makes good sense! NOT!!!!!!!!!
If the NCAA had any balls at all... which it doesn't, it would act like a real governing body and fix both of the above problems for the good of college sports and the athletes who play them!!!!!

Clemson only had two losses in the regular season, and those were both to ranked teams.
Notre Dame and South Carolina both had four losses, and two of them in a less than spectacular manner (Marshall and Stanford for us).
Thus, Clemson did deserve to be ranked up there. They won the games they were supposed to win, and we didn't.
Are we a better team than Clemson overall? Probably so, but when you lose the games you're supposed to win, then you deserve the fate that you get. If we would have beaten Marshall and Stanford, we could have certainly had a NY6 bowl berth. If we would have beaten just one of those two, it's still possible that the NY6 bowl berth could have been in play, even with the USC loss.
We controlled our own destiny, and we didn't make it happen.
Of course I understand all of what you said... but the teams SEC schools play... at least some of them... are truly powder puff schools... like Woford and Furman. Hence my comment aboput not taking strength of schedule into account. Bottom line... BOBO still decides the rankings!
