Pure speculation on my part but wonder if the shot to his chest caused cardiac arrest. Hope he’s ok.

Thought of this when I heard. Have heard of this previously with regard to young lacrosse players.

Tragic case of bad timing essentially.

Prayers for Hamlin.

Most likely a condition called Commotio Cordis from what I've been reading.

Happened to Chris Pronger in the NHL years ago. He was hit with a puck to the heart.

The thing is, it didn't appear to be a brutal play. It appeared to be a condition other than the hit

Didn’t appear to be, but the shot to the chest may have contributed to the cardiac arrest.

With the speed and the ferocity of the hits in the game, it’s only a matter of time before someone literally dies on the field. That may not have been this play, but the hit may also have contributed in stopping his heart.

I think you probably got the "shot" part right

The ESPN coverage was predictably terrible. Everyone trying to "out sad" the other guy.

Croc tears, next time you boo a player remember he's a human being (what?), this is unprecedented, this never happened before, false info reported about players reporting in 5 minutes, pointing fingers at the NFL for not canceling game sooner.. Typical night for the media and ESPN. If ESPN would have used at least one of their 40k employees to do minimal research, they would have discovered this was not unprecedented because it happened in 1971 with the death of Lions WR Chuck Hughes. A TV game vs the Bears. As of this morning, these idiots are still going with last nights talking points. Here's hoping for a full recovery for the young man.
