Having a viable option at the most important position in football will do that.

I tend to agree, spacing out the heavyweight opponents and the lightweights keeps the team fresh & hopefully healthy.
Even Hulk Hogan fought Jake the Milkman Milliman & Barry O at times. Every game doesn’t have to be the headliner at Wrestlemania. The polls don’t reward it, imho.
Just my two cents, as always I could be wrong.
I'm beginning to think some of you don't know the difference between FCS and FBS. Beating a FBS cupcake may score a few points with the committee. Beating an FCS program who went 4-7 in 2022 won't do jack for our playoff hopes.
We play 3-4 big games a year, and everyone gets jacked to play us. (We have to win 3of the 4 biggies, next year OSU, SC & Clem, plus some other team will surprise and be good.)
Personally, I’d have been fine playing McNeese State after opening with Ohio State this year breaking in a new HC & QB.
And, btw, the 1812 song is no great shakes. Sounds like the bad news bears song when they are throwing the baseball all over the infield.
Just my 2 cents, as always I could be wrong.
Good chance ND will not get the benefit of the doubt. Sorry, but that's the way it will play out. You might as well play the New York Womens College for the Tall. It will have the same affect as playing a bad FCS team. Plus, it's the tradition thing again. ND is supposed to be all about tradition. I still am not convinced some here know the difference between FCS and FBS.
But a cupcake is a cupcake, whether you get it at Walmart or Sprinkles. You are holding on to something that’s not that important, imho. A crap game is a crap game. And everyone needs some breathers in there.
I really think you get judged on the big games, the rest is often splitting hairs.
Every season is different, but with expanded playoffs a 1 loss ND will get high consideration most every year, and next year as well. It’s a tv show & ND brings ratings.
Again, just my 2 cents, as always…
All 3 shouldn't be to start the year. Makes more sense to spread them out - but atleast its a step in the right direction.

Jack opened this door for the politics of it all. I'm sure it will be a sell out, only because of the early September weather. TV ratings might be another matter. What other ND tradition can we destroy?
In the 60/70s it was 9, then grew to 10, 11, 12 with a bowl game. Now it’s 12 with 3 possible playoff games down the pipe.
You have got to see the changing landscape/dynamics and adjust. There used to be a tradition of only 59,075 at every home game, ND adjusted & for the better.
Every home game used to start at 1:30 local time. No lights in the stadium (hello Musco, then lights)
There used to be Notre Dame football replay on Sunday mornings. That was the only way you could see the game without attending.
These were all “traditions” that were changed.

Plenty of FBS programs that ND can walk over.

It might be good for your ego, but that's all. Jack might as well schedule Wabash College . That will get the same results when it comes down to playoff selection. We all know why this game was even scheduled and it had nothing to do with football. Plenty of FBS programs to massage your ego with. Let's play a little game. What other traditions can we kill since it isn't all that important to the younger fans? Gold helmets? 1812 overture? Eliminate tailgating? Irish Guard? Touchdown pushups? Navy game? USC game? Lots to choose from.

Link: ..Bama suffering too much in the eyes of the committee.
Wins, conference titles, National titles, playoff success, recruiting. Their record speaks for itself. ND is not there yet. Bama will get the benefit of the doubt. ND losing cred with their BCS and playoff performances. I'll be at that Tennessee State game. I'm looking forward to watching their band perform and meeting their fans. Great folks I bet. If we can, we invite opposing fans to join our tailgate. That day we will try and do the same. Hopefully the weather will not be rainy or thunderstorms. The record books will show a W for that day but it needs to come with an asterisk and a notation that Jack did this. USC tried this BS and the Trojan fans revolted. The USC AD backed off the idea. ND is too engrained in the social climate of it all to do that. So, here we go. A W that won't count for or against our record unless the unthinkable happens.
It sure wasn't by scheduling all FBS opponents and multiple non conference games against big boys, on the road no less. It's not about right now, it's about they've been doing it all along as one of the things they used to get there.
That's a game where they can just roll the ball out and win...the advantage? A game where they can tune the starters up for a half and the game is over, so they can play backups in live action for an entire half with virtuallyno chanceof losing...this is how you develop depth.
LOL. Hilarious. Bragging rights over a bad FCS program.
