……the days of Keivarae Russell moving from RB as an incoming freshman will be rare, and the days of Avery Davis moving from QB to DB to slot receiver or Pat Terrell from WR ot DB will be almost unheard of. There just won’t make sense in most cases to have a guy learn a new position rather than get an experienced one in the portal.
I think that may be true in some cases, but I think a lot of those moves are made because a player in high school is just being slotted into whatever position makes the best use of their athleticism, not necessarily because they are particularly skilled at that position. Once they get to the college level and are evaluated, it may be that they are better suited for a different position than the one they were playing in high school.
will opt for the faster solution of the portal rather than the uncertain and slower developmental solution.
