Great to see him getting his due praise. Out of any defensive player I've ever seen play for the Fighting Irish (since the Holtz era), Stonebreaker easily had one of the highest football IQ's out there.
I still maintain that if he hadn't wrecked his knee and broken his pelvis in that awful car wreck, he would have been a first round draft pick. Even with those awful injuries, he was still one of the best college linebackers out there in 1990, and his excellent anticipation almost always had him in the right place at the right time.
A toast to you, Mr. Stonebreaker, and a hearty thanks for your hard nosed play for those top notch Holtz teams.
