keep the program clean and graduate these unathletic white guys, who play BB just to have it noted their resume; the ND Admin. was ok with that!
about his future often and recently reached a "mutual conclusion" that the head coach would retire at year's end. The offer he couldn’t refuse!!

hired. If he still wants to come.
If the administration and BOT wanted a winning BBall program that badly, they would have pushed Brey out a while ago

A baker's dozen of NCAA tournament appearances, multiple 20+ win seasons, a couple of Elite 8 appearances, etc., all show that he did a good job of coaching here, overall.
That being said, he was a lot like Brian Kelly, that he got us to that point where we could contend for the top spots, but beating those guys on a somewhat regular basis simply wasn't in the cards.
He was definitely an upgrade over John MacLeod, and certainly far better than what Digger Phelps had degenerated into towards the end. I honestly don't know how Matt Doherty would have done had he stayed here, but he did set a pretty good foundation for Brey.
It's time for a change in coaching, for sure, and probably should have been done around 2017. Still, I'm grateful for his elevating the program, having suffered years of watching the team flounder under Phelps and MacLeod.
At least he didn't bring in players like Jon and Joe Ross (the twins who both stank, although Jon was a bit better), Brooks Boyer and Carl Cozen... I still remember a Bookstore Basketball team called "Len Bias, Hank Gathers, Joe Ross, and two other stiffs on the court" back in the early 90's.

I attended.
Unless one lives in the South Bend or Chicago areas, it’s not something alums would attend.
My last men’s game was in 1980; I did attend a Women’s regional final in Chicago 4 years ago; Irish were the defending National Champs and reached the finals again that year.
