I just read an article that analyzed the playing status of the 34 five-star recruits in the 2022 entry class, Sneed was listed as not having a single start and he totaled 39 snaps on defense. This is the breakdown of the entire group.
Cornerbacks – 7; five did not have any starts and the group totaled 1487 snaps. Three of them 7 transferred.
Defensive Line – 5: two did not have any starts and the group totaled 1186 snaps.
Edge – 4; three did not have any starts and the group totaled 713 snaps.
Linebackers – 4; three did not have any starts and the group totaled 565 snaps.
Offensive Line 4; three did not have any starts and the group totaled 858 snaps. (One had 13 starts and 858 snaps.)
Quarterbacks 4; two of them did not have any starts and the group totaled 684 snaps.
Running Backs 1; he had 8 starts and 384 snaps.
Safeties 2; one did not have any starts and the group totaled 916 snaps. (One had 14 starts and 847 snaps.)
Wide Receivers 3; all three had starts and the group totaled 1286 snaps. One of the 3 has transferred. (Two totaled 18 starts for 1097 snaps.)
In total, 19 of the 34 five-star recruits did not have any starts, so Sneed was with the majority. His 39 total snaps, however, put him in the bottom 25% of the group..
Interesting is that four of them entered the transfer portal.
Not just creating packages for him to play in. For example, where he's purely the spy on a fast QB; where he's blitzing or dropping based on the Mike's call; man on an RB he goes, you go, he stays you stay.
Stuff like that simply to get him reps, bolster the profile of the program because letting a 5* ultra-athlete shine removes that lack of talent or speed notion from analysts and committee members minds -- this game is part fashion show AND recruits watch.
Regardless, he did get some time towards the end of the year...just hope they start doing that more for incoming players because allll the top programs do. You hear about some freshman sensation "they're sooo excited about this young man" time and time again with Bama and Georgia and Clemson because they showcase their players. Sometimes, they don't pan out but you give em ops because it helps more than just game that day. You can't rely just on practice. Some guys, a lot of guys, do better in the fire.
