Both have said so in their own words.
They trusted each other.

You'll notice who Rees himself stated had the power to hire or fire him in this very article.
"At that point, he knew Freeman was meeting with Swarbrick sometime Wednesday. If Freeman were hired, the chances of him staying would skyrocket."
Freeman wanted Rees. Period.
Nowhere does it say Swarbrick demanded Freeman accept Rees as his OC.

You and I and most everyone else has done the same, and many of us ended up staying put and doing good things. Don't be a hypocrite and try to deny others the same ability. He's been granted an interview with the premier program in college football from a small-timey program in which the AD told the new head coach that he had to take Rees. Hardly a flattering situation and hardly a testament to the strength of the new head coach. No head coach worth his salt allows someone else to tell him who to hire and fire, most of all one of the two freaking coordinators. You contrast that kind of head coach with the guy who has come to symbolize the head coach at the college level and Rees would be a fool not to interview.
I’d be happy if he left. Good for him.
The rest of your diatribe is long winded and false.
I only interviewed with another company when I was dissatisfied with my current job or boss.
Never when I was happy.
Don’t project. It doesn’t apply.
"Stop taking things personally" and "Stop being small-timey" is good advice for you in a number of contexts. Odd that you not only did not see Jurkovec's transfer as a betrayal, but actually cast him as a victim.
The poster left in 2009.
Freeman and Rees, in their own words,
trusted each other.
Your macho lectures impress no one.
Jurkovec is a head case.
