Heavy on the run and use the tight end as your best receiver. Not as talented at WR and especially at QB. Pyne played really well in some games. Especially USC. Unfortunately his ceiling was low and his two turnovers against the Trojans were killers.
Looking back at recruiting ratings, its obvious that Bennett was badly underrated, and Pyne was somewhat overrated.
I'm not saying that Pyne was horrible; it's just that his four star rating wasn't that accurate in terms of both potential and performance.
Pyne did a decent job last year, but could only run about a third of the playbook with his limitations, and that easily cost us the Stanford game, as well as the USC game. Part of the blame goes to Tommy Rees for making some truly awful play calls.
All speculation of course, but emulating the Georgia offense was his goal, and the parallels to NDs. I can’t seem to locate it now to link.
