I for one believe he will eventually prove to be a very good OC. However, it's all based on potential. How long do we want to continue to wait for that potential to become reality? I had pretty high hopes for him in '23 but, that was far from a guarantee.
You certainly can't make the case right now that Rees leaving is a definite loss. With what we have coming back on offense there are many viable candidates who can improve the offense. Even just elevating Parker is probably at minimum a push.
Remember all of Rees's failings this year. Especially ones like the 2nd half of Navy. Rees had several questionable performances and they weren't all due to limitations at QB.

Ultimately, I think it proves the right personnel decision, but hiring a first-time HC and first time OC out of the gate isn't a great look, particularly since neither has had years of grooming that would put them in a position to succeed. It comes off as flat footed and small time.
That said, the Rees move may have been the plan all along. What happens the next two years will be telling.
I'm just being realistic here... You have Alabama, Georgia, and tOSU at the top tier. Michigan's getting close as well with those last two excellent years.
We were a very good team, being a small notch below the excellent teams in Brian Kelly's last few years, but bad breaks can do that, but even in those golden Brian Kelly years, we were still second tier, coming closer to first tier, much like how Michigan looked in 2021 and 2022.
Until we can show that we can beat the top tier guys at least a third of the time, we're not top tier, plain and simple. It's up to us to fix it.

Asking for a friend.
Nobody questions whether or not we are second tier. The question is, why are we ok with it?

Offensive analyst? Second chance? Juice worth the squeeze?

it wouldn't be nearly as big a deal. Most folks would be ecstatic bec his offense was just too up n down and the down was wayyyy down.
it could just be that we don’t know what the fook we are talking about.

I have a bad feeling about this. The optics are terrible. Former Irish quarterback leaves his alma mater for the same position at a rival. I hope I’m wrong.
Mentor in the business. No brainer for Rees.
The 60’s, 70’s and 80’s are long gone. We are about a 10-15 team right now.
But in reality, what happens in ND's search for an OC? If Saban could only come up with Rees, does that tell
us that the pickings are slim and none?
This was an awful year when looking at the Stanford and Marshall losses and seeing what could have been with OSU
and USC. Pyne was not the answer and isn't the starter many here thought. Buchner wasn't really given an offense
to use (meaning the OSU game and Marshall game plans looked entirely tethered to an idea instead of going after
it with all the talent available). USC, in MHO had Buchner been available and playing, ND could have come out of
that one with a win. Stanford - a horrible game plan - a horrible loss. That one was on all the coaching staff.
ND has talented football players. I agree with Goolsby, Buchner is a solid QB and should be a good one if given
a real opportunity. I'm not on the Hartman bandwagon. Bringing in a gunslinger who really isn't one, is just
keeping the QB position limbo another year. No one will improve therefore just kicking the can down the road
instead of coaching up QB's and making a go of it.
But perception is reality and in the 30 years since we were last really good, taking it all together that’s about where we’ve been. In fact that could be generous.
