This is honestly best for both sides. Freeman now can have his own staff top to bottom. The offensive debacles mixed in with great play from Mayer, the RBs, the Oline and then weird slides from Styles to upswings from Lenzy, Thomas, Colzie, one explosive play from Merriweather to nothing -- it was too much to figure out. Is it Rees, is it not....well he's gone. So this is a great place to be. Freeman has done an excellent job with assistants for the most part. A couple question marks on one or two but guys like Mason, McCullough, Mickens, Stuckey, have done great. This is possibly the most important hire bec it completes his staff and is the area of his least expertise being a def coach. He has to get a guy that is inline with the culture, great recruiter, and will use the weapons effectively. ND has some crazy talent coming in and more on the way. This hire can ensure the success of what's there and raise the profile of the program to attract more. I truly think if Rees left for the QB coach at some NFL job or the OC at Illinois, his home state not sayin the job is open, but whatever...ONLY because it's Bama and Saban did folks raise an eyebrow and get scared like...wait, what are we doing...no no...but folks forget Saban doesn't bring in the hottest young talent at OC so he can get shine. He brings in a guy he can control who needs help or needs to rehab or is looking to take a jump. Kiffin needed to rehab, Sark needed to rehab, O'Brien was a.500 coach and gm and just traded a Top 3 WR for nothing and had a huge debacle on his watch...he DEFINITELY needed to rehab. Now Sark and Kiff ain't done much since but they got good jobs after their stint in Bama. Rees will do well bec it's Bama and Saban and he'll get a good job elsewhere. So...all the best to him but for Freeman -- now it's on.
