aggressive. That's all.

...it should have been a knockout year.
There were many times that wide receivers were breaking wide open over the middle, and he either didn't see them, or refused to take his eyes of Mike Mayer. Either that, or he'd refuse to take a look at the left side of the field.
To be fair, Mike Mayer will beat almost anyone one on one much more often than not, but when you don't look for bigger opportunities in the passing game, you're crippling your own production.
Lorenzo Styles only having 30 catches last year was all but criminal theft. I can remember no fewer than a couple dozen times he broke open wide open, and was never even looked at, much less targeted.

the defense off balance.
But here's the thing, that is what makes a stud OC.
someone that is competent and knows how to do the job, including the good points you mentioned. The keeping the D off balance is critical.
I've argued against that mentality for years when people say 'what Big Name Coach can we get?'.
Literally none of our successful HCs were Big Names prior to coming to ND...haven't researched it but I'd bet the same holds very true for OCs.
media says he can do. It's the same issue with recruiting stars. They are great if you have a process to filter down to the right matches. But terrible if you just shoot for all the darlings the media loves to gloat over.
Coaches are no different. BVG rings a bell. Willingham. Even Marcus falls under that category to an extent.
I'd go with a no name that has proven to statistically improve what he's working with over the can't miss OC.
Probably not a splash name, but sure seems like he can coach some offense.
for sure. Just keep moving the chains.
opens exponential opportunities (more first downs, big plays, scores).
One of my biggest pet peeves (especially on 3rd down) is a player not acting like the first down marker is life n death.

They all scored 38 or > PPG. We have as much talent as several of those teams.
Meanwhile, our 31ppg is nestled right between Ohio Bobcats and Mississippi State. That's embarrassing based on our talent and recruiting.
