Ty Simpson in a cast for 3-4 weeks

This may also be another factor in Buchner coming to Alabama. I was wondering how he'd fit in with the crowded QB house over there, and the best potential QB just went down with an injury.

Apparently, Simpson dislocated his throwing hand's thumb and suffered a UCL sprain. He's not expected to miss any of the fall, but dislocated fingers can lead to mechanical issues...

Sounds like they still don't have a QB.

Neither Milroe nor Simpson had a good day at the A-day game

Simpson's bad day, I can understand, since it's difficult to throw a good ball with a dislocated thumb.

Milroe has been inconsistent all spring, and was originally the favorite to win the starting QB position.

He had looked promising last year during garbage time in real games, but for some reason is having a harder time now.

Lonergan enrolled early, as did Holstein, but I haven't heard about their progress during the spring.

I wonder if Tommy Rees is trying to "improve" Milroe...

Milroe, "but for some reason is having a harder time now". We know the likely reason the game now

seems harder for him. We're lucky, IMO.

Yeah, he looked indecisive, even after running the "scan" prior to the snap

Last year, Bill O'Brien ran a hybrid pro-style / spread offense, which was much more heavily tilted towards pro-style. Heck, when you have Bryce Young as your starting QB, you can run just about anything... Young was exceptionally good at staying in the pocket, reading receivers, and timing his throws just right.

Milroe simply played as a true dual threat QB in a spread manner, where he'd look for the first option in the passing game, and if that were covered, then look for the second option. If the second option weren't open, he take off running, unless the the third or fourth option were obviously wide open. Basically, Bill O'Brien's package for him was similar to how Jalen Hurts would run the offense. He actually looked pretty comfortable running that simplified offense.

During this year's spring game, he looked confused out there, trying to read the receivers, even though he had "scanned" the field earlier.

Now, to be fair, Alabama has a top notch defense that would make life miserable for almost any opposing offense. Still, it's a spring game, where players aren't going to be going all out.
