I have no problem w/ Freeman offering a "diamond in the rough" but he needs to be signing 5* players or we'll never reach the promised land.
Outside of Carr who (of course) has yet to sign, Freeman hasn't delivered. He really, really, REALLY has to get Justin Scott to sign.
You need at least one top 5 class every 3-4 years to have a chance. They’re not close to that. Frankly, I think this class will be lucky to finish top 10, that’s how horrendous the Defense is right now
Why are you losing your mind right now? ND is going to have something like a 71% Blue Chip Ratio next year which is as good as it's been in years and years.
That’s not a great indicator, there’s no distinction bw a 5* and low 4*
Do you expect us to have all 5-stars?

I liken it to the obsession over the US News & World Report academic rankings. Completely meaningless garbage that unfortunately has become quite influential.
No, it’s not. The data proves you need elite classes to win a title. Do some research for once.
Samplings of players vs an individual. There are plenty of examples of successful 3 star and flameouts at 5.
But any one person can prove the entire rating off. Which makes sense to me.
Obviously coaching and player development has some affect here
Just look at 'Bama and Georgia
Are always exceptions. Relying on those exceptions should be limited ti a very small number each cycle. Should not be counted on as a reliable tactic
Most services had Joe Alt as a 3 star recruit, and Rivals had him at 5.6. Those aren't exactly great numbers, since 5.8 is the minimum for a 4 star rating.
He was 257 lbs at the time we were recruiting him, and his only other Power 5 offers were Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Northwestern, and Rutgers, along with North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
I don't think that anyone in his right mind can question that he turned out quite well, and anyone who questioned why we would "waste" a scholarship on a 3 star undersized (at the time) fellow should be happily eating crow right now. As for my own evaluation, I thought he would be challenging for a starting spot around his junior year after some S&C and experience, since he already had great technique and footwork. I'm also glad to have been proven wrong when it came to his timeline.
Jeff Quinn wasn't a very good line coach, but to his credit, he did know how to bring in the talent.
For that matter, a lot of Nebraska's excellent success in the 90's was done with offensive line who were barely on the radar. Those O-line coaches under Osborne knew what they were looking for, and I would dare say, were the next best thing to having Joe Moore as a line coach.
How’s recruiting that way worked out for ND the last 30 years? A few 3* each class is fine and I’m not under the impression, they’ll be recruiting at UGA or Bama’s level. However, this Defensive class is terrible right now abs only getting worse.

This year's draft in particular showed that 5 star recruits produce championships. I see a lot of this commentary being aimed at excusing our woefully inadequate attempt at signing these types of players in any signifcant numbers or with any consistency. Obviously, 3 star players can bloom into championship caliber players. But the programs at the top consistently land championship caliber talent, and lots of it. 3 star players are needed and I hate seeing ignorant posts that disparage a kid due to his ranking, but there no way to get around the fact that those 5 star kids are integral to making serious runs at an NC.

Tyler Eifert was a 3*, other examples if I think about it.
The star rating system is far from perfect.

On the macro level, it’s pretty much always right. The data proves it.
And the coaches should be doing their own evaluations, star system is for fans.
That’s stupid, on the macro level, you need elite talent.
I know we need elite talent, but bitching over taking some 3*s is silly. Calm your tits.

Baseball was Mahomes' main focus until late and neither attended any camps or 7 on 7s due to other sports and therefore didnt get evaluated. Allen was also 6'3 180 as a SR so he was still growing and developing as a prospect. But now its all about going to camps to get rated as a 4* or 5*! Eifert was 1 tenth of a point from being a 4*

They consider you to be raw unless you show up at these camps and give them something to look at up close and personal, unless you have outstanding measurables or in my case run blazing track times with decent size.
