Where is the compassion?

My guess is that a significant % of the five star recruits come from impoverished backgrounds and that serious upfront NIL money would ease the financial burdens of their families.

As an allegedly "Christian" institution ND should be among the most generous of institutions when it comes to providing for those in need.

No?

Providing serious upfront NIL money is a clear rules violation. The End

As long as they are 5 stars. The rest can remain mired in poverty. It’s in the beatitudes somewhere.

I have no serious proposal for how we can compete in the world of NIL and the transfer portal.

Funneling catholic charities to help out five stars is both hilarious (because its so ludicrous), and so so sad, (because I would bet that some would actually endorse this).
ND can not compete in the world of “NIL”, very few institutions can….I refuse to call them schools. Also, “NIL” in quotation because is it really NIL?
ND has the resources to devolve with the rest, but they are not, thank god.

lkings from high school onward.

If you want to make that argument, start there.......and start by setting an example first and opening your own wallet.....or are Christians the only people that you think need to perform charity?

This is not about the “players,” it’s about bolstering our fans’ masculinity.

The NCAA has made it clear that pay-for-play is not allowed.

We can argue back and forth about whether or not it should be allowed, but as the rules are currently written, it is not.

Anyone that is offering money for a recruit's commitment, is cheating.
Anyone that is accepting money solely to play football, is cheating.
Anyone that is allowing a player to play for them with the understanding that the player is accepting money to commit and play for their school, is cheating.

I'll add that compassion would not be a valid argument for why pay-for-play should be allowed.
- Teach a man to fish, and he'll be able to feed himself for his entire life. These kids are getting access to an education. If you want them to improve their lives, the opportunity for that is already being provided.
- The game feeds many mouths and therefore the integrity of the game is paramount. If we don't find a way to regulate pay-for-play in some way, the quality of competition and interest in the game will be diminished; revenue and opportunities will dwindle.
