It's not that tough to pick out 5 Stars or 4 Stars that are faster or stronger than their competition. Once Kizer got an offer from ND a lot of schools went after him. It came down to Notre Dame & LSU. If a player was a 3 Star right after the season that's what he is. You can't move up or down without playing. All the recruiting services know the Irish have a large national fanbase so some players get overated. It shows up when they play in a major bowl. Not enough team speed. Watch the tapes. They don't lie.

Team speed is based on how a team is coached to play. ND's teams have a had plenty of...
measured speed athletes yet the style of play was not to play fast. The most visible SEC schools teach a faster style of play and often their players get to the combine and aren't necessarily the fastest players. Offensively ND has look just fine speed-wise but on D the strategy has often been read and react vs attack and adjust. ND had crazy speed at LB the past few yrs and a lot of it was wasted on poor schemes and bad coaching.

Look at Rivals 5 stars and top 100, it’s dominated by southerners. In fact Notre Dame’s roster is dominated by Southerners.
