After one year as a head coach, how is Freeman ranked ahead of two very accomplished head coaches in Brohm, who did a great job at Purdue and Clausen who is very well respected as a head coach and could get a better job anytime he wanted?
We won't really know how good a head coach Freeman is until at least '25 when he will have had some time to create his own team.

Day has had 4 excellent seasons, with two NY6 bowl wins, and a national championship game appearance, and he has done a fine job of recruiting top notch classes.
He also did a good job of keeping the team together after Urban Meyer got in trouble (again).
He has at least a couple of mulligans he can use, assuming he has a substandard season. I see no reason why he can't get to a 10+ win season, though.
To put it this way, he may have started out inheriting the keys to a Ferrari that Urban Meyer left for him, but the fact that he has put in four quality seasons in a row shows that he's not some kid with a silver spoon in his mouth. This team is mostly his players, and they've been contributing heavily towards the team's success.
I'm not about to put him on the same level as Nick Saban, but if he keeps this up, he could very well get in that territory sooner rather than later.
The only reason why I think he would leave, is if a NFL team came calling and offered him a heck of a nice package, and if that were the case, I think he would make a far better pro coach than Meyer did when he stunk up the field in Jacksonville.
kind of difference. He's got ways to go to be in that conversation

He has plenty of talent on that team, and they should, by all rights, win at least 10 games in 2023, even if he loses to us and Michigan.
How long did tOSU keep John Cooper as their coach? Keep in mind, they kept him even after that 6-6 year in 1999 (and that team was loaded with NFL talent).
turn up the heat. Plus he hasn't won the big ten in 3 years! Ohio State is like ND was once upon a time....
If, say, he went .500 this year with that deeply talented and well-developed team, I could see the AD for tOSU telling him "improve dramatically next year or be fired," but the odds of that happening are slim to none. Again, there's simply far too much well-coached talent, and I strongly doubt that Brian Hartline will deviate from last year's offensive plan, seeing how he was the passing game coordinator last year.
Day is a very good coach, and even if he lost to ND and Michigan in the same year, I don't see his losing any other games on that schedule aside from possibly Penn State. At the very most, I could see 2023's tOSU team with 3 losses, but that's not going to be enough for Day to get the ultimatum.
Looking back at history, I suspect that had John Cooper not had that 6-6 season in his next to the last season at tOSU, he would probably have been retained for a while longer.

The last time I had working knowledge about that hellhole was back in late 90's, and throughout the earlier part of the Tressel era.
Did it really change that much in a couple of decades, that Urban Meyer turned them into a bunch of... Nah... Won't say it.

He has proven nothing so far. He is 9-5. He has a ways to go.

Truth hurts huh? How has he proven himself? I’ll be waiting. Not saying he might be worthy in 3-4 years.
