The reason: he won the most games in ND history.

He must have been crazy, drunk, or the statement is being taken out of context.

No way in hell he should be getting a statue.
Let’s play a game: Ara, Devine, Knute, Holtz, Kelly. Which one doesn’t fit?
Takes at least one Natty, and that’s just the beginning.

a new OC, new DC and new SC coach did the program begin to turn around. The culture changed then. Not sure we should attribute that to BK.

George Keogan deserves a statue. Brey and Kelly do not. Statues are for NC coaches.

And he does deserve a statue. Hard not to admit he was a polarizing figure though. Then ditching ND for another gig - which I do not think has happened before, is a tough pill to swallow.

If you're gonna put a statue of someone up, you'd want to make sure they are going to come back for the "celebration."

Willingham almost destroyed the program by his shitty recruiting (2004, 2005 classes), along with his laziness and ineptitude.

Seriously... Trying to run a West Coast Offense with a triple option running quarterback?

Recruiting ONE offensive lineman in those last two classes of his?

and look at the big win vs terrible loss ratio. It's pretty out of whack, and not to the big win side.

Just because he was better than his 2 predecessors (who were 2 of the worst ever) doesn't make him great. Certainly not deserving of a plaque, let alone a statue.

Maybe a statuette in one of the bathrooms is appropriate in honor of his longevity. Some recognition is in order for winning just enough to not get fired.

No statue for Brian Kelly

I'm grateful for his finishing the rebuilding job that Weis started, and bringing us to top 10 contention on a consistent basis, but the fact that he couldn't get us over the hump means that he was simply a good, and yes, even very good, coach, is the limit of how far he could take us.

When I think of top tier ND coaches, I think of Knute, Frank, Ara, and Lou, and yes, even Dan Devine. Brian Kelly came somewhat close, but consistently failed to get us over the hump.

Besides, if you want to look at total wins, the vacated wins in Kelly's record puts him below Lou and Knute, and his percentage wins are nowhere near Ara's or Frank's.

Then, like he did yesterday, he tries to weasel out of if it by saying that he couldn't care one way or the other if Kelly gets a statue.

But that's not true because he keeps saying it.

34-5-1 while HC at ND. College Football Hall of Fame. Set the table for Rockne. Harp introduced a national schedule to the ND program and was a strong advocate of graduating his players. BTW, he was also the AD and HC for baseball and basketball. He had a winning record in all three sports he coached. BK couldn't carry Jess Harper's jockstrap.

If we let Weis stick around long enough he could have won the most games in Notre Dame history.

Sorry, but being granted 12 years without a NC then shunning us for money is not the stuff of Notre Dame statues.
