1) the very lawyerly, and carefully crafted CYA responses to the Declan Sullivan tragedy - and then the family showed him what it means to be a Christian and a Notre Dame family.
2) He should have fired Kelly in 2016 and did not.

The way he pushed Lou out was disgraceful, along with negotiating the shitty bowl deals.
Had he simply let Lou do what he did best, you would have seen at least 1 or 2 more NC's during a much longer Lou Holtz era.
Anyone who believes that Lou retired because he wanted to preserve Knute Rockne's record is welcome to buy some of that oceanfront property in Arizona that I have.
