I remember how much Miami had thoroughly outplayed us the year before and had put a damper on an otherwise great year (Tim Brown won the Heisman and the trip to Cotton Bowl). When Miami rolled around, it was early in the season and I dreaded Notre Dame getting a loss. It ended up being one of most exciting games I had watched. With the win, Notre Dame established itself as a title contender and my Notre Dame fandom took off. Freeman needs to channel Rockne Saturday night and all the spirits of those great ND teams need to be in our players hearts.
Miami was the top dog in the late 80's, and ND played them regularly.
It was a true rivalry maintained by pure hatred.
It feels like this is Omaha Beach and if we win this Battle, we win the War.
