re-watched the game...Bertrand missed at least 12 tackles. It's like he's shot out of a gun and just can't change direction. At least 5 times he blitzed and ran straight into our DL or their OT.
He reminds me of Bauer, running around like a chicken with its head cut off. You notice it more because you always see the hair.
Every now and then he runs into a play but he, as well with the other starting lbs, rarely make plays in the backfield. It doesn't help that our DL gets pushed around.
The defense plays hard well but there are no impact players at all.
I think he is vastly improved over the prior years. Bertrand seems to have a problem changing directions but he does read plays well and usually slows down whoever he hits that enables others to get the tackle.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.
Yes, he ran down the qb on a play. Yes I believe he recovered the last fumble. He plays hard and enthusiastically.
But considering his experience and playin time, how many impact play he has made all year?
He is a terrible blitzer. often runs himself out of good defensive position and he seems to have no sense of where the play is going and getting in front of it instead of constantly chasing from behind.
I suspect the reason I notice his play is because his hair makes him stand out when he is 5 yards behind a play.
Berttrand goes out it's Kiser or Bowen.

He got the nod when Bertrand was out against CMU because he was the only one who could call the D, but he struggled mightily. Just not a MLB.
You need to find a different whipping boy
has been our leading tackler for two years

Would be interesting to see where Bertrand, Kiser and Liufau stand. Joe Schmidt was last or close to last in the country for missed tackles in 2015, according to this site. Bertrand and Kiser seem to miss more than their share like JS did.

After consistent 3 and outs from the offense.

of the defense, long on promise, short on results

None of the guys on the DL or elsewhere have moves.
Washington ought to go after this season.

Saw this NC State game
hasn’t shown a whole lot with his opportunities.
Merriwether and sneed and last year Kollie seem to get bogged down
This has to be scheme and complicated. It’s like we make things difficult because we have smart kids but it keeps guys talent from showing
And we need to rely on the guys that know their jobs better than the more athletic kids.
