I wonder if LSU fans understand what will happen to them when this QB leaves & they get a Kelly QB?

He'll simply find another transfer portal QB.

He can't develop them, so why not grab a QB who has already been developed?

Thread Level: 4

I wouldn't beat this drum too loud until we show we can develop one..

I have confidence in Guidugli, but until he's done it here...

Reminds me of 2014, where Max Redfield leveled Devin Gardner, while Gardner was trying to make a tackle, and it was a perfectly clean block from the front.

Refs threw the flag anyways, and robbed us of 6 points.

Dare I say, that was Brian Van Gorder's only good game as a DC.

Certainly looks to me like there was helmet to helmet contact, but the replays on that are sufficiently inconclusive to call it.
Daniels didn't turn his helmet into the contact, so duty on the defender to somehow avoid it -- I don't believe he did enough to get his own helmet out of the collision path.

Still, a reasonable no-call, and not one I would expect to go ND's way in an ACC reffed game.

note: I am aware the official rule here is not "helmet to helmet", but if there was, then
1) it was with the crown -- "the crown of the helmet starts from the area above the facemask"
2) there was intent to make a forceful hit (he is visibly making an upward thrust into the contact)

if there is helmet-to-helmet, the offending player needs the contact to be below the top of his facemask

again, a reasonable no call both on the field and in the booth, because the evidence of helmet-to-helmet visible to us is not clear and compelling (except for Daniels' head movements after contact.....)

"Starts above the facemask" is from the 2016 rules

The current rules define the crown of the helmet as follows:

ARTICLE 3. No player shall target and make forcible contact against an
opponent with the crown of their helmet. The crown of the helmet is the top
segment of the helmet; namely, the circular area defined by a 6-inch radius
from the apex (top) of the helmet.

Good to know, though that’s largely a distinction without a difference. I imagine the booth is stipulating that it’s at the top of the face mask (it usually will be) unless it’s an atypical design like the kicker’s face masks of old.

Basically, they are looking at the top of the helmet

If you drop your head, you are at risk. If you keep your head up, you should be OK.

Therefore, helmet to helmet contact is not a penalty unless the defender hits him with the crown of his helmet which he did not.
