If this bowl is just an excuse to practice this makes perfect sense.

Not sure the story checks out. Anything outside NY6 and playoffs is lower-tier. Regardless, excited to see who starts the bowl game.
He won't improve his draft stock, whether he plays or not. As for ND, they have nothing to gain by playing him. Let Angeli start for a whole game, even if it's a glorified scrimmage.
Angeli’s chance to show he deserves ( or not) the #1 QB going into next year
Media keeps saying winning 10 games is important. Is it? OSU has their third string QB playing for god sakes.
I could give two dimes about 9-4 vs 10-3 this year. In fact, 2023 will soon be cashed out from my memory bank along with most the past 35+ years of mediocrity. Ask me what our record was in 2019…I have no clue.
If we make the playoffs and make some noise, I will remember that for a long time, like 1988, 1993, and 2012. Otherwise, it’s just white noise.
So agree with ELP, I don’t have strong feelings about Sam, whether he plays or not. Still think he is a good man, Still want ND to win the bowl (not because of the record, but because I want ND to win every game).

is memorable and only a national championship is truly great. The 11-2 was achieved when we beat Brock Purdy and Iowa State.

My understanding is that this year's 3rd string QB for OSU was last year's starter with a 7-2 record as the starter. So he brings more experience than what we'd put out there if there is no Hartman although, admittedly, you don't go from 1st to 3rd string if your coaching staff is happy with you (unless you transfer to Alabama or Arizona State).

With top level guys opting out and the transfer portal decimating teams depth charts, they are merely exhibition games and a chance for teams to face other guys not on their team.
Hartman can make whatever choice he wants be he gains nothing in playing this game and ND can learn a lot from letting Angeli and Michney play with guys who will be their teammates next year.

Let's see Angeli for a full game.
Until he's not.
ND tradition.
Pathetic
Freeman's answer re Hartman playing certainly left the door open that Hartman could be announcing a decision to opt out.
