I still say that Tony Smith was one of the most underrated players we have ever had here at ND. He had that clutch catch for 27 yards in that game.
The man really stepped up his game in 1991, when we were all counting on Rocket Ismail to come back (but he didn't).

That gave us the Orange Bowl berth against FSU, and another game that got stolen away from us by yet another phantom clipping call.
That team had the capability of winning it all if it weren't for a horribly sluggish day against Northwestern, and an Emmet Mosley fumble that cost us the tOSU game.
We would have matched up very well against Nebraska.
And it seems to me back in the Lou days, a Navy RB or WR broke free as the game was endng only to be run down near the Irish goal line to save the game. Don't recall the year or players involved but I believe it was in the stadium.
