game that I ever attended. 19 degrees, 8 below 0 with the 25 mph winds. Just watched the replay on the B10 network. ND trailed 21 - 14 with 5 minutes left. It was impossible to pass in the conditions. Brilliant running by Mark Green, Freshman Rick Waters and several keepers by Tony Rice had the Irish score on a 60 yard drive to come within a point with 23 seconds left. Lou elected to go for 2.. There was no OT at that point and time. Tony Rice was stopped by Keith Karpinski on the keeper 2 yards short. Karpinski had shadowed Rice all day and Rice had eaten him alive. But in that loss we got a glimpse of what was to come in the next few years under Holtz. I remember leaving the stadium in my ND gear receiving handshakes from many Penn State fans, normally haters, who said to a person that ND had finally turned the corner ... It was so cold that a girl PSU fan sitting in my section had the water bottle that she was drinking from freeze to her lip... She had to go to the medical area to have it removed!
I thought I was watching Tecmo Bowl when I saw the replay on ESPN Classic.

Rice near the end of the first half when we were on about their 3 yard line and the pass play was called and intercepted!!!! Yuch!!!

easily predictable got a key first down on fourth down. They even missed a field goal at one point and I thought the game was over because we had all the momentum. We drove the ball down the field again but either poor execution or bad play calling in the red zone killed us. I wanted to forget that game as soon as possible. The one play appearance in the game of Kent Graham on first down from the three for a pass play was the head scratcher though.

Frankly, Andrysiak probably should've been starting a couple seasons before that. Beuerlein had a really good senior season, but Andrysiak always moved the team down the field and was much more mobile.
lou substituted graham for rice too in first half inside PSU 5; which may have cost game..
