Where were all of you at that time?
I remember watching this game in a 6 man suite in my dorm's section, and wondering why Bo was being so foolish, kicking to Rocket again after he burnt them for a TD return.
If you would have told me that Michigan's quarterbacks would complete over 70% of their passes along with 2 TD, and we would only complete a single pass during that entire game, I wouldn't have dreamed that we would win that game.
Yet, Lou played that game as impressively as any, and two KO returns for TD's by Rocket Ismail (on a wet, slippery artificial turf surface), along with some really stout running by Anthony Johnson, swung that game for us. That, plus the only pass Tony Rice completed that game was a TD to Anthony Johnson, and only one of his two passing TD's that entire year.
Yes, Rocket deserved the MVP for those two KO returns, but equal credit has to be given to Anthony Johnson for his gutsy performance against a really stout Michigan defense.

It was a glorious sight to see. They all knew Bo made a really bad decision, but were afraid to call him out on it.

Interesting coincidence: Myers' big football rival was the G.A.R. Grenadiers, another Wilkes-Barre high school. G.A.R---for Grand Army of the Republic--- had a tackle named Greg Skrepenak (he graduated in1988 as did Rocket). Greg went on to play at Michigan and also played in the NFL. I'm pretty sure he played in the 1989 ND v scUM game. He and Rocket were on the Carolina Panthers roster at the same time I think. Going into his senior year at scUM Greg was on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Myers and G.A.R were combined with several other high schools in 2021 to form Wilkes-Barre Area High School. Sic transit gloria!
Another tidbit about G.A.R: G.A.R graduate Bob Williams was the ND quarterback from 1956-1958. He was the QB when ND beat Oklahoma 7-0 to snap the Sooners' 47 game winning streak. Williams became a medical doctor but sadly died in his early 50's. His son was a starting tackle for the NY Giants when they won the Super Bowl.
4 year starter, and in 1990 he cleared the way for Jon Vaughn to run over us for 200+ yards. In 1991, he cleared the way for Ricky Powers to get 4 yards a carry every damned time... He was a 320 lb monster back in the days where 280 lb offensive linemen were the norm, and 300 lb linemen were considered "jumbo."
At the end of the year, there was a lot of talk of Greg Skrepanek being a top 10 pick, but because he had a really bad NFL Combine showing, he dropped to the 2nd round. I remember Mirko Jurkovic telling me after the 1992 combine, that Skrepanek had one of the worst showings out of all of the linemen, running a 5.5 40 time, and only putting up 16 reps of the bench press. He actually refused to do most of the drills after that bad showing.
He was actually lucky to be selected in the 2nd round, since his bad attitude really soured a lot of NFL scouts.
He did have a good pro career, though. I'll definitely give him that, since he was a multi-year starter.
The same can't be said about his political career, though. I think he got busted for corruption back in the late 2000's, and was plenty pissed that the Democratic Party didn't come to his rescue.
than everyone else. His pro career was uneventful for the most part. I remember him starting which I give him kudos for that but he didn’t dominate like you would have thought he would for that massive size. His bench combine numbers were horrible.
5 star guys at that time...
don’t recall him being all that great in HS. Rocket always stood out, the missile not so much so then.
Qadry wasn't utilized much in HS because he was used as his brothers blocker.
Pro Career Stats:
463 rec for 7,246 yards and 41 Tds 2x All Star, 1x Grey Cup MVP, Runner-up MVP(Rocket)
353 rec for 5,137 yards and 33 Tds (Qadry)
was clearly the better player when healthy. I remember Beuerlein connecting with Rocket on two long TD passes when they were both on the Raiders. Rocket was productive with Dallas when they were mediocre and Troy Aikman once said he never saw a player that was faster than the rest run such precise patterns. He also caught an 80 yarder to win a game in overtime against the Redskins. It really pisses me off that Rocket didn't play for Jimmie Johnson because he would have had a Hall of Fame career IMO.
Wilkes barre Scranton at same time too.
Big guys. Skrep play in the nfl?
I went I high school with Marc and knew Tim. We drove to ND after a break once He barely fit in my car.

I'll say! Let's not forget Allentown Central Catholic's Ed McCaffery! I think Ed graduated from Allentown CC in 1990.
A great receiver at Stanford and for the Broncos. Oh, he also has four sons who have played D1 CFB too!
