ND needs to recruit a Punter and Kicker for next year, unless they are going back to the portal for both again.
What's the point? You can grab kickers and punters, with experience, on an annual basis.
That's becoming farther and further in between these days.
It's a rare thing that you're going to have a 4 year kicker the likes of Justin Yoon, Kyle Brindza, or Craig Hentrich. Most of the time, if a kicker doesn't win out the starting job early he's going to leave. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised that Jonathan Doerer stuck around for that long.
Also, as Clem pointed out very well, kickers and punters aren't going to need that much time to adjust to the system. They only have to know their kicking duties, and proper coverages. The former is an automatic thing for a player transferring in. The latter doesn't take that long at all.
and not miss a beat. It's not like they need time to adjust and learn a system.

Thrilled that Shuler gets the nod, kids a missile.

Play, but at this level you need your best players on the team.
Keep pushing for next man in.

Under Alexander and Stuckey, we brought in plenty of 4 star talent, but all too many of them either didn't develop to their potential (Styles, Colzie), or flat-out left last year (James, Flores, Merriweather).
There were some flashes of potential (Styles in 2021), but the sub-optimal QB situation in 2022 didn't give them a chance to develop on the field. Seeing Lorenzo Styles put on a very fine performance in the Fiesta Bowl gave me hope that we'd have a true WR1 ready to seize command of the field, but that never materialized.
Seeing Rico Flores put on a pretty good season as a true freshman brought some measure of hope, but that got dashed after all of those receivers left when Stuckey left.
This year will be a telling one with regards to how the WR talent we have has been developed, since they will have had a full off-season under Mike Brown.
If Jayden Thomas and Jaden Greathouse blossom, then the WR talent out there is going to take notice.

Jordan Johnson was a classic example. He never made it elsewhere. Neither have any of the others so far. We will find out more with Merriweather and Flores this year.
I checked his profile, and apparently, he transferred out of UCF to Iowa Western Community College.
That just seems way out of place... Every program wanted this kid, and it's just rather surprising to see that with his talent (and he was quite talented) he couldn't catch on somewhere else. He looked pretty polished coming out of high school, that his route running was very good, showing good hands, and a willingness to block on running plays. It would only seem logical that he'd be a real contributor somewhere, even if it weren't at the Golden Dome.
It makes me wonder... Did our coaching staff "break" him to the point where he couldn't recover? It's as if he developed a severe case of the yips once Brian Kelly got a hold of him.
