Not sure if it serves a purpose to have the last game on January 20.
And as we saw last year, every year there are only realistically anywhere from 3-6 teams who legitimately have a shot at winning, or at least deserve a shot. I think ND's independence would still serve well to be one of the 8 teams.
But I guess the money from the additional games is what this is all about.
Use the old BCS formula, top 8 are in, seeded respectively.
First round is played at higher seeds place, bowl games for last 2 rounds.
The Top 10 has always been considered the cream of the crop for college football. What better way to accentuate this.

I'm not sure I like 6/10 byes vs 4/12. I don't like the byes at all in fact.
Game for team who made finals last year if they get a bye.
3 rounds is more than enough. Mo team outside the top 10 should get a chance to win. So go with 8.
12 is actually good but if you wanna go lower 10 should be the bar minimum.
