Fallacies that must... absolutely MUST be corrected:
1. You can NOT hire a head coach who has no prior head coaching experience... ESPECIALLY at a place like Notre Dame. Its ridiculous to think being an assistant coach at Notre Dame is the same as being a head coach at Notre Dame. That is just STUPID!!!!
2. You cannot give an untried, untested new head coach, with no prior head coaching experience, a long-term contract without first proving himself for say, 2 or 3 years. Such an untried new head coach should NEVER be hired in the first place. To do otherwise is just STUPID!!!
3. You cannot hire a head coach because the "players like him." Freeman was and is popular with players, but that never, never, never translates into quality play. Players didn't necessarily "like:" Frank Leahy because he was so tough on them... BUT they played well enough for him to win four national championships. A coach's "likability" can NEVER be a factor in hiring a head coach. To think so is just STUPID!!!
4. The so-called "portal" MUST come to an end. You cannot build a quality organization by bringing in last minute people who then take precedence over players who have been there and been loyal to your program for years. Build your program with people who actually have been there, understand your environment, and actually WANT to be there. Riley Leonard should NEVER have been made the starter over Angeli... NEVER!!! Its terrible for group morale. To think otherwise is just STUPID!!!
5. Notre Dame MUST initiate a policy that new recruits sign a legally binding contract to stay the length of time stipulated in the contract. NO PORTAL BULLSHIT. It doesn't work and think it does is just STUPID!!!
6. When a player demonstrates a lack of ability... for instance, can't throw a pass down field over twenty yards... then that player MUST be yanked out of a game ASAP. To leave an unqualified player in a game is just STUPID!!!!
STOP THE STUPIDITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Point 4 isn't going to happen...at least not across all of college football. Now...ND could decide to not use the portal at all...which I think then puts them at a disadvantage. And then we're in the same discussion that is going on with Dabo Swinney at Clemson and his attitude towards the portal.
You try to put point 5 into place...and I'm guessing that negatively affects ND's recruiting.
I'm open to be proven wrong on either of the above.
Well, if you heard what they said yesterday about NIU and the fact that they do NOT use the portal. Rather, they grow their team from the inside. And look what that brought them... a huge victory over the number 5 ranked team in the country. No! I must disagree. The portal hasn't done anything but hurt Notre Dame and not given guys like Angeli the chance they have earned.. In my opinion, if other schools want to use the portal, fine, But Notre Dame must ban it forever. Its only hurting us.
And along with what I said above. Notre Dame MUST do something to insure players don't go into and out of that stupid portal. If a legally binding contract can be initiated, it must be done... in my opinion. And I do not agree that this would hurt recruiting. If a kid REALLY wants to be at Notre Dame then a legally binding contract won't be a problem for him. BUT, if a kid wants to commit to Notre Dame, just so he can leverage himself to get to some other school through the portal, then that kid does NOT really want to be at Notre Dame, and we don't need kids who don't want to be at Notre Dame. We need kids fully committed to Notre Dame.
