Great line from Buffalo Springfield song.
After 4 days of reading 4 other boards and reading every aspect of what is wrong..players, coaches, culture, fans etc etc etc. let me pass along a sad aspect of all this.
I know 2 players on the team and their families.
One player who i talked with on Monday shared these feelings
* The boos absolutely tore at him and his teammates
* The fans yelling F bombs at the players crushed the players
* He said that the players didn't take the field on Saturday to play shitty and get beat, they did, and he and his team know that. Nobody ever takes the field to only play at 50%.
He said they take the field as a team and as an extension of the University and its student body and the fans.
* A few of the players are really down in that when they win the fans and media love them, when they lay an egg it's a horror show.
He said many players read not only the social media stuff but the ND sites, and the horrible shit they read does affect them.
His final thought was that he and a few players will NEVER run out of that tunnel and view ND nation and all that makes ND special in a way he use to.
My thoughts.
This is a sad state of ND Football. For the team, the program, the fans.
My nephew Ryan played under Holtz. They laid an egg or two during his time.
I would get pissed and have pain for a loss (like to Northwestern) but its a fucking game. I would never boo my nephew for playing bad and would not shout out F bombs.
Thats where i get sad. This week seems to have brought out a vile aspect of the loss.
I hope we win the rest of the games make the playoffs and advance.
Not so much for me personally but all that makes up the Notre Dame Football Universe
nobody who does that is even remotely qualified to take the field and represent.

I have no idea what was said at halftime, but if you don't know what to say or do to get a team to respond - your in the wrong profession. If you don't realize by the 4th quarter that your team isn't there today and now your only goal needs to figure out how to get out with a win (run the ball with a 2nd and 1 and 5 minutes left), and rip the team a new one Monday, then your in the wrong profesion. I blame Freeman 100%. He should have got them out of there with a win and dealt with them not showing up on Monday.

I have also never been to a game with that bad a performance or outcome. The closest I can think was UCLA where Jeff Samardzija scored the winning touchdown. Then the place blew up louder than I've ever heard it.
I would say to him that maybe it felt bad, but they had a lot of people believing in them, and they came out and put on a shit show of a performance, at the home opener. If they were ever going to get booed, it would be then. How are you not locked in for the home opener?
You can't have it all. You wanted NIL, you got it. You can't expect everyone to treat you as just a student athlete now that you are getting paid. I am one of those that believed that the education, connections, and a chance at the NFL should have been payment enough, but that ship has long sailed. Fans have a right to be upset at a dismal performance against a team you should have beaten handily or blown out. I am willing to bet money that they didn't get booed after the OSU game that they lost, because they played hard, and they almost won. Again, you put a shit product out, you can certainly expect a shit reaction from fans that paid to be there.
They need to take that reaction and use it to fuel them. You don't deserve fans just because you show up, those fans understand that you aren't going to be there forever, they are fans of the school and program. You want them to cheer for you and not boo? Give them a reason to.
I do 100% agree with some points, the loudest portion of the fan base is massively bipolar. You beat A&M and they think you're going to win it all, you lose to NIU and now you're going to be lucky to be .500 this year. I will say that the egg you lay is extra stinky when it is against an opponent of that caliber. There is never a reason for F bombs at the players. And I also hope they run the table and go deep into the playoff.
why some do as many of the players are now pros. Some are even Portal NIL mercenary pros. Can’t have it both ways guys. You want the money, it comes with the jeers.

create hard times.
If we take the wisdom of this quote and apply it to the world right now as well as the state of ND football from Holtz forward; it makes sense.
Psychologically, since Holtz we've created an environment of good times (weak men) in both the world and ND football. Everything has progressively moved to be based on emotional feelings and not principle and laws of fact. Why? I don't know, but I do know the latter is much tougher to digest. It's a lot harder and most people stear from hard out of the fear of failure. Strong men head into the face of fear and difficulty.
If ND has men too emotionally beaten to walk out of the tunnel based on a lousy performance, then we have the wrong men on the bus. Possibly, this is the systemic issue that has pleagued ND footbal for 30 years?
I say all this realizing that yes, the world is vile right now. Message boards and social media are ripping the fabric of our country and organizations apart. But, if we had strong men, strong leaders the seams would not be ripping apart. That's the unfortunate truth. This is the principle being missed in the repetitive tough lessons we are not learning from.

Any reasons not to boo have been largely removed...
There is little reason to watch other than the vestiges of what college football once was...
ND loses another game and I can only guarantee that I'll watch the game that I'm slated to go to after that.
ND football used to have priority over almost every other plan or event.
No longer feel that way...

NIL and transfer rules have changed the dynamic with fans IMHO. I really really disliked the effort I saw from the players and staff on Saturday. I did not boo but fans around me did. I sit by the student body where booing was happening. Not all students booed but most were not happy with the on field effort. It's unfortunate the incredibly poor performance by players and staff led to fans displeasure. These same fans gave players and staff all the praise and adulation players and staff deserved after A&M. I'm thinking that a lot of this displeasure from the fans was aimed squarely at MF and his staff. Who knows.
If they play like dog shit, expect to be booed.

Didn't boo then, wouldn't boo now.
The heartbeat is legitimate though.

.....Phils got slammed 10-2....after the game, the fans booed big time. You'd swear they lost the World Series!!
paid mercenaries that need to stop whining.
They are pros. That’s the REAL sad state of CFB today. Sack up fellas. You take the king’s coin, you better perform. These aren’t the Holtz days.
Welcome to the Brave New World.
The kumbaya days are over and this is even more a commercial venture than it ever was. You have the money now. But you can't have everything, because everyone expects to see a good return on investment and nobody has to treat you like a toddler when you stink the place up.
You wanted it and you got it. Enjoy
That’s the nature of what current college football isI’m
of the fan base. We were/are all disappointed by the loss, but don't revile the players and coaches (especially the players, the coaching criticism comes with the job, but should still be reasonable).

bombs are way out of bounds but I wonder if these “kids” making more than the families of a lot of ND students would play for free? probably a strong correlation between the two.
Probably fans should announce before they start booing that it is intended for the HC and his staff. Players are exempt. Even the ones making big NIL cabbage. Fans were also booing the officials a time or two. I stand, yell, and cheer but I never boo. It's not because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. It's because I just don't.
