I'm about as hopefully optimistic as most and I don't see a lot to be positive about now. I really
like Marcus and I really like Leonard as great people, but what have we seen that shows we can stop this poor play? I still hope for winning the rest but feel like it is the greatest mountain we have ever had to climb right now. The line is too young, the QB is having a difficult time, and Marcus cannot figure out a way to beat opponents we should bury. I will root hard for them to turn this around, I don't mind people saying, I told you so if it happens. Right now though I feel like crap over this team because I truly love and live Notre Dame football and was one who said if we win the first game, we will win them all. The only game I felt we could lose if we won the first game was USC because it is almost always tough out there.
Unless Leonard really improves, it is imperative that Marcus has Angeli ready and Carr after that. Ultimately Carr should start next year but the fact I am already mentioning next year really hurts because I was expecting big things after we beat Texas A & M and I don't think I have ever been punched harder. At least when Rocket got screwed in 1990 I knew we would still field teams that could beat anyone, same in 1993 after the BC debacle where we were asleep the first half. 1996 was to me Holtz's only poor coaching job. We could have beaten Ohio State if Mosely doesn't drop the bomb from Pawlus early, and/or Denson doesn't have a punt return called back. Getting beat by Air Force in overtime was pitiful, and blowing the USC game with no help from "thunderfoot" kicker who couldn't make the extra point. Holtz 's record would have been even greater if the field goal kickers would not have missed so many short field goals and extra points, or the punters didn't shank so many punts. Faust was not very lucky before Holtz either, tons of missed field goals, and blowing games by poor punting and having poor QB play until Beurlein came along who still did have interception problems as good as he was.
Then backstabbing Bob started coaching poorly, and the false resume of Leary, who probably would have been a good if not great coach, and lazy Ty, arrogant Charlie and two faced Kelly came along. Kelly performed decently, but he was a real prick. I loved the hire of Marcus though I preferred Fickel, but I still remained positive with Marcus. He was loved by the players, he could recruit where we never did, and he was a great person, the perfect fit. I sadly am doubting him now. It's already been 6 days since the debacle at home,(another one and yes I count the loss to Ohio State last year due to poor end of game decisions). I am really feeling it still. Maybe it was because of the hype but I expected this year to be the start of years of success again. I hope and pray the players and coaches are doing better than I am and can overcome what they have brought on themselves. I am going to bed now because I think this week is the most I have aged in my life and I have not been sleeping well. One game at a time please and a win is a win. All clichés but the best I can hope for now. If we do win them all, my optimism will be restored quickly.

It didn't for Kelly regarding Book. Freeman would be smart to have Angeli prepared for entry by the
second quarter if necessary.
The media shamed Kelly into Book over Wimbush. The prior Spring, Book drastically outperformed
Wimbush yet wimbush was handed the job.
The situation looked eerily similar to today with Leonard. A "sky is the limit" runner that can't pass vs. the appearance of steady and nothing spectacular from an on paper skills perspective.
MF is making the same mistake Kelly made.
The 2017 NC game was the one that made it clear Book should be the starter. After that is when the media started openly questioning what we already knew. Though Kelly's ego wouldn't allow.

Very true. You have to find the right balance. There are only a few truly special ones that have it
all.
You may be right, I did not realize that Book drastically outperformed him in the Spring. Isn't it
odd every time we get more excited about the new QB coming in or finally starting it often bites us in the ass. In Wimbush's case so many were thrilled to have him because he was fast had a strong arm, and seemed like a good kid.. How can you miss, well there are a lot of intangibles that are more important than speed and strength. Sometimes talent does not nearly measure up to knowing how to play the position. I think Book knew how to play the position, I think Angeli does, but I really think Carr does and will. Again, he has to have Angeli ready to play if Leonard struggles into the second quarter.
