Not exactly a hot take, I know. The 6 highest conference champions are in, leaving the Irish open to only 1 of 6 at-large bids (which they likely would be unless the Top 10 is all Big10 and SEC).
The question I have is whether an 11-1 Irish would host a playoff game. If hypothetically Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Iowa State are the top 4 (and get byes), but Iowa State and Clemson are ranked lower than ND it might mean that the #2 & #3 teams for the SEC and the Big 10 could be ahead of ND. Said differently, would the voters choose a 2-loss Michigan or a 2-loss PSU over ND to host a game? Possibly.
Losing a game made ND subject to the whims of others.
