That should give us a a decent 11-1 record. However, I do feel like a side "bonus" for SEC and Big Ten is now their average schedule strength seems harder with more good teams, making their bitching about ND having a weak schedule have more weight.
mauled by physical teams and rely on too many big chunk plays. I hope they beat Penn State because I loathe that team that is mostly overrated every year and plays nobody, game after game. Plus it would be good for us. Penn State seems to have many close games against weak teams but they never seem to lose them, unlike us right now. I think we have a bit more talent than Penn State, although with our abnormally weakened line play, it might not be as much as usual. This game scares me since I cannot stand Penn State.
The typical SEC team plays 6-7 ranked teams. Florida plays 8/12 games against ranked opponents including 4 in the top 10. Please stop making shit up.
It's in LA.
but they'll lose at least one more.
They will be watching the playoffs, just like us.

Both of those teams will finish with 3 or more losses.
Miami & Clemson will kick Louisville's ass. I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to SMU this weekend.
well with Texas A & M defense and Louisville's QB and good receivers and defense, they have a decent shot of winning a lot and maybe losing only one more each. We will see. Clemson is definitely not a world beater with their QB and I think Miami may be a bit overrated and often play dumb to boot. SEC, different animal sometimes even LSU pulls an upset, yet gets upset.

Sure it is possible but the cookies would have to crumble in just the right way for that to happen. ND's loss to NIU not only virtually killed ND's playoff chances but did major damage to A&M and Louisville's chances since neither are likely to win their respective conferences and another loss coming to an unimpressive ND team.
ND's chances are on fumes already and another loss would completely sniff those out. The harsh reality is that from the beginning this year, given the schedule's overall weakness, ND could only afford one loss to get in and it would have had to be against one of the "better" teams on the schedule. i.e., Texas A&M, USC or FSU. FSU bleak season to date pretty much eliminates one of the impressive wins we needed to get in with one loss.
A&M is wishing on a star to get in since, given the SEC, beating a good ND team was their ticket in assuming they are likely, at best, to be the 4th SEC (any realistic guessing at this point would point to Georgia, Alabama and Texas as almost givens) team in and that assumes they would only absorb one loss the rest of the season which is a flight of fancy.
Louisville's loss to ND as well almost kills their chances unless they can win the ACC and it is a dream to think that they can beat Clemson and Miami.
ND's way in is to go undefeated ( a major leap of faith) and hope that both Louisville and A&M are "in the conversation." Absent that, it is most probable that lal 3 teams are out and it would be NIU that killed all three teams' chances.
In the unlikely event that we win out, we will definitely make the playoffs and will likely be hosting our first round game.
As Nigel says, it's unlikely we win out...actually I'd be SHOCKED if we won out.
MF longest win streak to date is 5 games and he's currently at 3 with Stanford, GA Tech, and Navy standing in the way of him breaking that. I need to see him do this before I even consider the thought of him winning 10 straight within the realm of possibility.
Having said that, if he does somehow accomplish this unlikely task and gets ND to win out then we will not only be in the playoff but will likely be hosting a first round game as the 7 or 8 seed.
Nice to see a voice/mind of reason
We need to go 11-1, and hope USC keeps winning so game in late November is meaningful
Stanford, GT, Navy, Army, and USC could all beat them.
get in. What I think will happen is that other teams will lose and maybe more than once that will enable us to get in, especially if we win the rest of our games.
I agree. Doesn’t matter who ND looses to….it was early in the season and ND winning out from there will get them in. I would bet unless there are 5 or even 6 unbeaten teams that are not power 5 conference champions ND gets in every time they go 11-1.
