Nothing worse than losing a backup QB who's going to be hitting the portal and looking for more NIL next year.
Tragic, I tell ya.
Houston Nutt benched him because of one bad series and replaced him with Casey Dick, and even some guy named Johnson after Casey Dick got hurt. Only after Johnson stunk up the field, did Mustain return.
I remember one entertaining writer putting out a headline of "Nutt benches Dick, Johnson impotent. Stain cleanup follows."
I think Mitch Mustain could have done quite well, based on what he did at Arkansas as a true freshman, and actually doing a decent job as a sophomore, but his decision to transfer to USC, where they had a ridiculous amount of 4 and 5 star QB talent, killed his career.
If u don’t want kids with this talent because of some other reason, we arent closing any gaps.
Freeman has to try to get these kids.

....he's at. Left UCLA after 1 year, now at Oregon behind Dillon Gabriel.. ND 's qb room is fine now w/Carr, Minchey, Angeli, and Grubbs!
In 2 of the 3 recruiting cycles, Freeman and staff have been all in on QBs who have a ton of talent, but might not be the best fits for Notre Dame. They need to do a better job of being honest with themselves about who they can actually get who will be a fit at ND. It's a hard balancing act since they also need a gamechanger at the position since ND hasn't had one for so long. Carr is a great example though. It looks ike he has all the skills to be an elite QB and he never wavered in his commitment at all eve through OC changes.
I think it helps recruiting more to see a guy commit, develop, play multiple seasons over going to the portal for 3 rental QBs.

His only claim to fame afterwards was his significant contribution to "Under the Tarnished Dome" with his confabulations.
He never rose above the scout team and flat-out quit on the team.
At least Mike McNair contributed to special teams and graduated from the Golden Dome and is a very productive member of society. Nice guy, too.

I'll always have respect for Mike McNair as a fellow alum.
I have nothing but scorn and contempt for the player I referred to in my previous post.
