His ceiling is too low to be the starter in 2025. Are any parts of his game elite? No. Can his play elevate the players around him? No.
He would make a nice starter at BC, Rutgers, PItt, ect.
My great fear is that Freeman's conservative offensive philosophy will lead to a Angeli team next year, and another 2-3 loss season.
I think we'll get to see this first-hand this year as Riley is bound to be knocked out.
small sample set. If Leonard stayed in the pocket as long as Angeli does, he may have more comparable passing numbers - and more comparable sacks too. The issue with both appears to be the very green (and injured) OL.
Just another thread (of way too many) to say the same things over and over.
Guessing there's a "I'm not being heard, please listen to me" desperation going on with this lot.
will get the call?
The receivers would also have a pulse which is what the offense desperately needs for the playoffs. I do not believe the ND WR are as bad as people make them appear. Their problem is that they can't throw the ball to themselves. Angeli's quick decision making/release would also counter the weak o-line play. Stanford would be the perfect experiment game for Angeli. Leonard could serve a Taysom Hill type role which makes much more sense.
taking us to the promised land
but Leonard if we win our remaining games, gives us the best shot at winning two or maybe more playoff games.
There was no shot at winning a playoff game with Book, who's much better than Leonard
NC is not possible unless you can get 3 first round receivers to transfer in
about who should be starting QB
I simply don't understand why people continually downplay him. All he's ever done is perform at a high level when called upon. His main flaw is he takes too many sacks but that can be fixed.
Angeli is a good passer with very good touch and accuracy (much, much better touch and accuracy than Leonard), but there is nothing elite about his game and definitely not route awareness.
What have you ever seen that made you think he has "elite" route awareness? Hitting a wide open WR for a long pass on a blown coverage?
I'm not negative on Angeli, I think in terms of just pure passing skills he's probably the 2nd most talented on the team behind Carr. But I don't ever recall a play where Angeli threw with anticipation 'to a spot' where he displayed some high level route awareness knowing a guy was coming open after he threw the ball.
If you have a play or two in mind where he did this, please point them out and I'd be more than happy to go check them out.
Angeli has some real strengths and a few weaknesses. IMO the things he's weak at are things that can be improved with experience and good coaching. However they are things that with a suspect OL vs teams like A&M and Louisville may have gotten him and us killed. ..but our schedule is easing up now in terms of scary Defense/DLs.
I thought Angeli should have come in the second half vs NIU when Leonard was dinged up and really a liability out there and if Leonard struggles against the remaining schedule I'd be comfortable with giving Angeli an extended run with hopes our OL comes together in time for USC...but can we please not be using the word elite to describe Angeli until he actually shows something, anything, elite.
even know if he takes too many sacks. This notion stems from one bad play.
How many bad plays have we seen from Leonard? And Hartman? Waaaaaay too many. Yet these same posters support and overlook those bad plays ony to blame the WRs or OL. Next it will be the defense.
It's interesting that we have "bad" WR and WR play but it took Angeli exactly two plays to do what Riley Leonard could not do in four games (or three) throw a TD pass, much less a long one. So, I think people need to put in more critical thought and stop with the tired uneducated rehashed, homer evaluations.
4 for 40!

PT before the year is out.
If Carr is anywhere as good as advertised he should be given every chance to start next year. If he doesn’t win the job it’s because he isn’t as good as we think, it’s the coaches job to get him ready to play. No QB with that talent should have to sit for 2 years behind players with less talent.
Angeli in spot work might win a game or 2. It’s not like our opponents would be ready for a downfield passer that comes out of nowhere if RL gets hurt, assuming freeman allows it.
I think freeman is also part of the problem here. We win by giving up less points than we score not the other way around mentality
