Oregon HC Dan Lanning's crafty decision to put 12 men on the field won the Ohio St. game.
Was it dirty pool or a stroke of genius?
Whatever the case, it was beyond cool to see Ohio St. QB, Will Howard, slide too late, and see the clock expire.
Howard went down at the Oregon 27. Had he been a second sooner, Ohio St. would have called time out and would almost certainly have won the game, 34-32, with a game-winning 37 yard FG.
The four seconds that Lanning's 12 men on the field penalty ate up, proved to be the time-expiring difference.
Poor old Ohio St. would have won the game if they had 1 more second on the clock.

Our guy put 10 men on the field and lost to OSU; their guy put 12 men on the field and beat them.

He moved them into long FG range doing it but OSU foolishly chose to try for more w/ QB keeper.
Calling it "genius" vs "stupidity" rests solely on outcome. Had Day chosen to kick it and were it good, this would be considered a major gaffe.
It would have been a lot better move 5 yds or more further back.
