I don’t think the defense would have lost the game but it would have been much closer had Navy not shot themselves in the foot so many times.

I think the defense played good and disciplined for the most part but Navy rushed for 222 yards despite losing 5 fumbles. One fumble the QB inexplicably drops the ball into the lap of the defender and into the end zone. Unforced fumbles absolutely changed the dynamic of the game.

If a player fumbles once or twice due to an unforced fumble, sure that's some bad luck or an off-game. If an entire team is fumbling like today, it's because the defense is forcing them to play faster than they want.
