Both were the problem. ND was a shitshow when Jellytits took over and he did restore a measure of
respectability, but that’s it. He was a lazy recruiter, a terrible game day coach, a horrible judge of talent, ran a grave yard for mediocre QB’s. and was an all around asswipe. He stayed way too long and should have been canned after 2016.
I’m not a Kelly fan. I’ll give him credit for building back up the program to respectability as you
point out and ND did become relevant again. It always rubbed me wrong how he was shopping for NFL jobs before the National Championship game. And how he left ND for LSU. He is a jackass and a phony person in my opinion. Kelly also loves to throw his players under the bus. You can’t do that as a coach. Good riddance.
100% This literally WAS his strength...he would probably make a GREAT AD.
Just keep him away from coaching the football things.

Notre Dame didn't hold him back from being more successful here. He did that all by himself.
