the mindset of thinking more finesse was necessary is highly problematic. It was Army and they had zero chance of stopping 2-3 QB sneaks from under center. It was a physical mismatch and, like BK, MD was/is thinking too much.
Save the "I need to be really clever and fool them" stuff for Texas and OSU. All he needed was a hammer for that job and he still thinks a 3D printer was/is the correct tool. Very BK-esque.
