Nice call you shitheads. I remember that game in 1980 and Herschel was great but he was never the
same player after that and he was still great. ND dominated play but made numerous bad mistakes. Fumbled kickoffs and similar things. Their QB completed one pass the whole game and it took a great catch on the sideline for the completion. Our Blair Kiel was awful as usual. We almost took Herschel out of the game early with some tremendous hitting especially from Bob Crable, who was the hardest hitter I ever saw along with Bob Olson from Ara's day.
Bottom line was that we were easily the better team in 1980 but gave it away. I think in 2017 they were slightly better but we still could have beaten them but for a Wimbush fumble on a blitz that we didn't handle. And sadly on a play near the end of the 2019 game Book was hurried immediately on the same blitz from the opposite side that Kelly or whoever was the offensive coordinator wasn't prepared for again. We had first and 10 from our own 48 with enough time to win that one too. That one I felt we should have won.
We needed this one badly this year and Marcus with all the injuries we had was still able to do what Kelly never could.
