Apparently it should have counted.

It never went through the uprights. Why should it have counted?

Yeah? It can't bounce over. Once it hits the ground it is dead

But it did go through the uprights... Not arguing it should count.

The fact that there are people who think that a ball that bounces over the crossbar is a good FG is mind boggling.

Thread Level: 5

that's what i thought

but people are posting the rules and as long as it doesn't touch anyone on the kicking team before it bounces in, it's good.

Thread Level: 6

It can't touch a member of the kicking team OR THE GROUND

How Scored
RULE 8
SECTION 4. FIELD GOAL
ARTICLE 1 a A field goal shall be scored if a scrimmage kick, which may
be a drop kick or place kick, passes over the crossbar between the uprights of
the receiving team’s goal before it touches a player of the kicking team or the
ground

Where’s the fun in that?

So then should receivers be allowed to catch passes off the bounce?

Let's make the ground immaterial on all plays. In fact, let's eliminate the sidelines as well. Imagine how much fun it would be to catch passes in the stands.

There was a bunch of sarcasm in my post

Clear as day in the rule book that it's no good.

ARTICLE
1. a. A field goal shall be scored if a scrimmage kick, which may be a drop kick or place kick, passes over the crossbar between the uprights of the receiving team’s goal before it touches a player of the kicking team or the ground.

College officials don't know the rule book, just a part time gig

If you can make it to a college level official, you know the rules

I often question their application or interpretation of the rules but not their knowledge of them. Officials are required to take exams testing their knowledge of the rules prior to being certified regardless of the fact that they are part-time.

All Refs including NFL have regular jobs. Moreover it does not require 365 days to know the rulebook
