We saw a perfect example of why you should defer if you win the coin toss. Not saying GA would have won but it did wind up playing a role in the outcome.
...this is the best start we could hope for."
always, always, always defer.

Doing what we did to Georgia. Unless your team is an offense machine I can’t imagine taking the ball. With our team the last thing we need is to get the ball to start and have a quick 3 and out.
You have to win the coin toss to make it happen. I assume PSU would do the same if they won the toss. We are the visitors so we get to call he toss this week. We would be the home team if we get to the finals and play OSU.
the rare occasion comes up where terrible weather is inbound in the second quarter and expected for the rest of the game AND we have a great offense we're confident can get 7 on opening drive.
There is too much power in deferring to not do it. Deferring doesn't guarantee you anything, but it unlocks the "possibility" of a chain of events that is all positive for you and game changing if it occurs and is only possible if you defer.
Taking the ball instead eliminates that possibility for you AND slides that potential across the table into the opponent's hands.
It's short sighted and bad strategy imo.
