Is staying outside of downtown doable? Is MARTA reliable? Will the city be shutdown on MLK?

we stayed in Buckhead last time we were there, but that was '06 and I've been told much has changed since then.
Yes, Depending on your transportation. Sandy springs, Dunwoody, King & Queen area via train NE,

Marta is very reliable but will be a madhouse after the game
Stay in Buckhead, Midtown, Sandy Springs…all on the NE line
Area around Braves stadium is cool but no Marta stations so have to Uber…not sure if bus service but I’m sure there is
Higher end hotels near stadium but likely sold out already and $$$$
StubHub shows tickets $1600 and up

The cost to attend is steep, but winning the first title since 1988 is a must-see event.

Avoid driving in ATL downtown traffic, having to find a place to park etc
There are large parking lots at most stations
Truth be told the system pales in comparison to the DC metro and has never been truly “built out”…but if you live in north and northeastern suburbs it’s a nice alternative.
clean, safe, and reliable. but you must be near one of the lines, which are basically n-s and e-w.
