From that angle, Carter's attempt to punch the ball out allowed Love to score. The other defender
hit Love just before, causing Carter to whiff. He was so off balance from the swing he fell over and missed the tackle. Not only that, but Carter could have hit Love two steps earlier but backed off to wind up his punch. ND probably scores anyway, but this is just another example: is the punch worth it?
It looks cool when the punch-out works. However, more often than not, it seems that all it does is allow the ball carrier to keep moving down the field.
