Depth Chart Concerns?
I suspect he is concerned about where he may wind up on the depth chart. Sam is an interior lineman but Rocco and Billy Schrauth are the starters. Jagusah is the LT, and since Knapp is better suited to playing inside he probably slots in above Sam.
Sam is a very good football player, possibly even an NFL caliber interior O-lineman. He needs an opportunity to show what he's got, so transferring probably makes sense for him.
Doesn't mean we won't miss him. From all accounts he's a pretty decent kid and a very good football player.
100% I think we all have about 6-7 guys we think should be "Starting" on OL in '25.

Notre Dame kept everyone in the boat for the playoff run, but Pendleton entered with a "do not contact" designation which basically suggests he knows where he is going already. I would be shocked if there weren't a bunch more soon and would be equally surprised if ND didn't do a little more adding of its own.
Maybe and yes. The $20mil spent by OSU was mostly to keep their roster intact.
