After getting fired as head coach at Rutgers:
Worked at Texas -- gone when Herman was fired.
Worked Jacksonville -- gone when Meyer got fired
Worked at Vegas -- gone when McDaniel got fired.
I'm not opining on whether he will be a good DC or not but his career after being a head coach at Rutgers is the result of his head coaches getting fired, not him looking for a new job.
Prior to Rutgers, I don't think his employment history is all that odd for a college football assistant.

I really thought it would have been Coach Mickens.
Ash seems like a solid choice. He's been a college DC at several places now, and seems to have done a good job along the way. He's also a good recruiter.
He might be the guy but he hasn't been hired yet.

Nw, is that Marcus making that call or is he being asked to surround himself with experience.
That said, not sure he’s a proven success at DC, but has experience. Specialty seems to be secondary.
