It’s the balance of greed versus saturation.
For me, even as a ND fan, the game felt distant from the season. Monday night was also dreadful and pretty low energy.
If they can’t hit it out of the park with ND and OSU, formula is off.

Season is too long. Cut the playoffs to maximum eight IMHO.
The media 24/7 going on and on that the game was going to be not much of a game at all. Why should viewers bother who were not connected with the teams involved?
If the season is too long then shorten the regular season by
a game or two, but the length of the playoff is just fine. Can even go to 16 teams without being lengthened as long as there are no byes.
