He is on the current roster, but there is no guarantee for the fall
I have read/heard on a number of sites that the fact he is on the roster is good news, but that he still has a few more boxes that have to be checked off before he can play this fall. The reports do not give any information on what the problem is, only that he is taking the steps required to get on the field this fall. But he still has work to do.
They say that he's a "full go" for the spring
From what I read he is on campus, in classes and training with his teammates.
Whatever obstacles are yet to be hurdled to get him playing for ND again seem to be a formality.

DE position is going to be deep and loaded
Onye's timing is ideal, since 2025 will be his last year of eligibility (played in 5 games last year, so he can't use that as a medical redshirt).
I just hope that the transfer portal DT / NT guys can step in right away to give Gabe Rubio and Donovan Hinish a breather as well.
Isn't Onye expected to be in the DT rotation?

I hadn't seen his recent stats. The last one I saw was that he was at 265 lbs, but that was in the middle of 2023.
He's now 290 lbs, so he could certainly be used as a DT or NT.
He is listed on the 2024 roster as DL 6-5 289. Another 10+ lbs. would nice as a DT.
