The cost of the portal system
Using the portal loosens the bonds of Experience, Progression and School Loyalty for the roster players remaining and the future. Angeli, after the year opening Bowl victory should have been the 24 QB starter for the year. Had he been, regardless of the following record, ND would be stronger today.
I find it interesting that this is big news outside of the ND sphere
Here is a guy who has one start over 3 years, due to Hartman sitting out the bowl game, and was recruited over for a grad transfer. A 3-star recruit, while he has shown competence during limited opportunities, absent his stand-up performance when Leonard went down in the national semi-final, what is the big deal outside of the ND circle?
Both ESPN and The Athletic has his transfer (to a team that is below .500 in a pretty average conference over the last 9 years) on their story leads. It seems he is getting as much ink as Carson Beck, a guy who got $4.3M, started 27 games, going 24-3 for one of the best programs in the country.
While it is noteworthy to our ND world, I guess it must mean that the folks who say ND isn't relevant need to adjust their thinking.
I hope he excels beyond his dreams—but loses to ND!

NIU's Jimmies & Joes was a lesson that there's more to this than pure on field talent.
Any edge an underdog can use makes that underdog dangerous. I'm just saying.
Surprise losses especially early in the season happen a lot. Generally come crunch time the Jimmies
and the Joes makes the difference.

Incredible upsets can happen, of course. That’s not worth even talking about since we know that they can.

IDK my friend. Cuse coming off a 10-3 year will struggle to win 7 this year.
Tough schedule in 2025. Really tough road schedule. I just fear a Senior Day let down against a mediocre at best team. Probably unwarranted anxiety.
Agree. Syr lost a ton, have a killer schedule, ND plays Pitt week b4, & it’s Senior Day
I just don’t think this game is going to sneak up on us. Esp with Angeli coming back to town - ND will not be looking past them.
Different schemes
Mike Denbrock will be playing with a significantly different scheme this year, since our QB is going to be a significantly better passer.
If Riley Leonard were still the quarterback, I could see how this would be an issue, but that's simply not going to be the case.
