I will say this, though, that teams weren't throwing Bobby Taylor's way, which gave Troy Vincent a chance to really shine during those years that they were the best CB tandem in the league.

You know your football! Bobby and Troy were Batman and Robin. They avoided throwing in Bobby's

direction.

Thanks. Even in 1992, as a true freshman, teams were avoiding him.

That year, back when Greg Lane went down with an injury, Bobby Taylor stepped in as a true freshman, and completely shut down some excellent collegiate receivers.

The opposing teams were basically concentrating on Tom Carter's side of the field, which allowed him to snag 5 INTs that year. Carter got burnt at times playing boundary cornerback, but always came back to make some great play later (USC game, especially).

Taylor playing so well also meant that Jeff Burris could be free to roam and he ended up grabbing 5 INT's that year as well. During that same USC game, the defense was controlling the line of scrimmage so well (USC ran for under 100 yards), that Jeff Burris playing roaming coverage allowed him to see that pathetic trick play where Rob Johnson faked like he fumbled, and tossed a pass to their TE (Yonny Jackson), which Burris batted away.

I can confidently say that without Bobby Taylor's excellent play, there's more than a good chance we lose that 1992 game against USC. With everything else bad happening that game (Mirer was terrible, barely completing a third of his passes, tossing an INT, and running for just a few measly yards, Reggie Brooks looking like he on death's door with a bad case of the flu), it seemed like divine intervention...

Even though Bobby Taylor wasn't a 1st round pick (which was all but criminal) in that 1995 draft, his excellent play allowed a lot of other guys to really shine in 1992 and 1993, since he always covered his guys one on one, letting the other guys enjoy the luxury of having double team help.
